The Northern Neck needs to be explored, and I have set out to do the research. The Northern Neck is the northernmost of three peninsulas (traditionally called “necks” in Virginia) on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
My son and I decided to travel to the town of Irvington, just an hour from Williamsburg. Irvington is located on the shore of Carter’s Creek, a tributary to the Rappahannock River. We found a hidden gem in Irvington, The Tides Inn. The Inn is 75 years old, and you can feel the history as you enter the lobby. Yet, the contemporary decor mixes with a nautical color scheme, and the water view is directly in front of you. Many of the rooms at the inn have the same incredible view.
The staff was friendly and made sure we were aware of our choices for lunch; we could dine indoors on the first floor. Or, we could have lunch at their more casual restaurant, Fish Hawk Oyster Bar. I loved the Fish Hawk’s fun open-air feel, the fresh seafood, and the beach. This casual restaurant makes you feel like you are on a destination vacation. After lunch, we decided to have dessert in their fine dining restaurant. Strawberry shortcake with strawberry ice cream; I have never had strawberry ice cream on shortcakes. What a great idea, and it was delicious!
The Tides Inn is a delightful spot hidden down a winding drive for a relaxing respite. We all need a quiet place to unwind, and the Inn provides the perfect atmosphere.
P.S. The Inn has a Spa and more surprises.
