Cape Charles is the town I knew I could not just visit once. On my second visit, I took my son Grayson for an overnight mini-vacation. We had such a great experience at the Hotel Cape Charles, and it was my choice again. We asked at the front desk upon check-in where we should have dinner. The answer was The Shanty restaurant, and it was within walking distance.
We just had to cross the street and walk down a path. There it was, a red building sitting next to the marsh. When we walked in, the view was incredible…water and blue sky. The bar was in the center of the room and was not yet crowded. Grayson and I dine early to beat the crowds and usually get a good table.
We were seated at a corner table with the best view. I ordered a watermelon crush, and Grayson had a beer. My cocktail was so refreshing. We both ordered the crab cakes because crab is in our DNA. The crab cakes were very good, and the fries were too. Grayson has an addition to dessert. You can see from the picture that he is delighted with his brownie sundae.
By the time we finished our dinner, there was a line of people waiting to be seated. The Shanty is worth the wait for the view and at least one watermelon crush, if not two.
