Christmas is here, bringing good cheer. It’s over. Don’t get me wrong, I love Christmas and decorating for the holidays. It does bring joy (good cheer), but so does getting your house back in order after the festivities.

I wait until New Year’s Day to drink heavily and climb a ladder to take off the tree topper. I am home and not on the road, so cocktails are permissible. I bring out all the empty boxes to fill them up once again. Carefully before they are placed away, I take the time to reminisce. As I take each ornament off the tree, I remember where they came from or who gifted them to us.

With Christmas ornaments packed away and the rest of the room cleared of holiday decorations, I look around and feel so good. I can see all the tiny accessories that are part of the year-round decor. So many of these have special meanings that I celebrate all year round.

I have thought about doing a mini-makeover after every Christmas. I would take all my accessories off the shelves, and table tops, set them on my center island, and then place them back in different locations throughout the room. I do rearrange my accessories a few times a year. Of course, it drives my son crazy, but it does give me a new outlook.

Do you enjoy putting away the holiday decorations and having your house back in order? Or is it hard to end the holiday by removing all your decorations? Please let me know in the comments. Happy New Year!
