Hope is a wonderful emotion. Hopelessness is debilitating. What causes us to become hopeless? Is it a lack of optimism or a feeling of dread? I have found in my life my feelings of dread were brought on by past experiences. Unfortunately, past events stay with you, and when you are faced with a similar situation in the present, feelings of panic or fear are brought to the surface.
My ex-husband tried to take away my alimony in 2020. I first received a letter from his attorney in the mail. I immediately spiraled into hopelessness. For me, it brought back the memory of how his attorney treated me previously. I needed help and reached out to my psychiatrist.
Hopelessness causes us to believe there is no relief. But, I never believe in giving up. It doesn’t mean I haven’t wanted to give up. I just won’t give up hope. I, like each of you, deserve the best in life.
Please know you are not alone in your struggles. Each of us feels hopeless at one time or another. When you are feeling hopeless, turn to a trusted friend whom you know will help you find a positive point of view. A friend who is caring, supportive, and always has a kind word. Reach out to a counselor or medical professional for advice and professional care.
My important message to my friends who struggle is to take good care of themselves. Please know your inner strength and fortitude will bring hope back to your life. Never, ever give up hope. What has brought you to the point of feeling hopeless? Do you find your past experiences dictate your present feelings?
