What did you say? Can you repeat that?
Are you asking these questions on a daily basis? I was asking all my friends and family to repeat themselves so often that it became noticeable to others and myself too.
Do you smile and laugh when talking in a group setting, but have no idea what the subject is? Do you have difficulty hearing others in rooms with loud background noise? I did. I would zone out or just sip my drink, smile, and hope no one noticed.
Then I read that there is a 70% increased chance of dementia with hearing loss. 70%! I knew it was time to have my hearing checked. I made an appointment with an audiologist. I had profound hearing loss in both ears. I am now the proud owner of Widex hearing aids. I am not embarrassed having to wear hearing aids. My hearing and memory are more important than my vanity.
The first day I wore my hearing aids, I could hear leaves rustling, birds singing, and cars approaching from a distance. I could hear my friend’s conversations. I am never afraid to tell people I wear hearing aids especially if there is loud music in the room. I explain,” I may miss what you are saying because of the loud music.” Everyone is kind and many people tell me they too are experiencing hearing loss and ask about my reasoning for making the decision to purchase hearing aids.
You may be experiencing hearing loss. Don’t put it off any longer, make an appointment with an audiologist. Your hearing health is your priority.
