Appetizers with differents antipasti, charcuterie, snacks and red wine. Sausage, ham, tapas, olives and crackers for buffet party. Top view, flat lay

Have you heard the word “charcuterie” lately? I have heard it constantly, and now it’s stuck in my head.  I don’t think you can be “in the know” if you are unaware of the king of appetizers.

Charcuterie boards are everywhere; charcuterie companies have sprung up across the country.  I googled the definition of the word charcuterie to figure out what exactly makes these boards different than any other tantalizing appetizer.

The term “charcuterie” refers to the preparing of cured meats, like prosciutto, bacon, salami, etc., but these days when people say charcuterie, they are usually referring to a fun, meat and cheese board that typically includes cured meats, a variety of cheeses, crackers, nuts, fruits and vegetables, and dipping sauces …

Now that you are well aware of the latest and the greatest in trending appetizers, you have all summer to practice your skills. From the looks of these beautifully aesthetic boards, we certainly need all the practice we can get! Who here knows how to turn deli meats into a flower?

If you’re not feeling as creative or culinarily ambitious, there is a local company who will do all the work for you.  Try River Bend Boards; the owner, Chelsea, is creative and loves cheese.  Connect with her company on Instagram at Riverbendboards.  The pictures are going to make your mouth water!
