This is a town and a place to fall in love with, even if you are visiting for a day. Cape Charles is a delightful small town with unique advantages.
The town’s Main Street, Mason Avenue, ends at the only public beach on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, and it’s free. You can park your car, stroll onto the beach, and relax without hassle.
I always wanted to stop and see Cape Charles, and finally, I did. I was on my way back from Delaware to Williamsburg and decided to check into the Hotel Cape Charles, located in the middle of the main street. It was off-season, and I was lucky to get a room. My room had a glass balcony overlooking the main street. I had a delightful breakfast in the morning in the Hotel’s Cafe and enjoyed a cappuccino on my balcony. I was excited to head out and explore.
Did I say explore? I met shop. Shopping is easy and fun. Most shops are on one side of the street and provide clothing, accessories, books, wine, and much more. There are plenty of choices for children who want to take home candy, toys, and games, and there’s even a surf shop.
I also walked a few side streets and admired the Victorian architecture of old. It was time to head home, but I knew I would return. Cape Charles is not that far from Williamsburg, and both towns surround you with history and quiet. I like quiet for a change of pace. Did I mention the food? Check my Food blog.
