Now that I have your attention, it’s time to indulge in the best Bloody Marys our area has to offer! Linda and I volunteered (LOL) to taste test this wonderful cocktail that years ago earned the title, “The hair of the dog,” referring to its ability to serve as a hangover remedy! What a fun way to spend a morning indulging in one of America’s favorite cocktails! The three restaurants we think have perfected the Bloody Mary are Crab & Fin, Made, and Siesta Key Oyster Bar.
For a little history…the Bloody Mary has been around since the 1920s and it was originally a simple combination of tomato juice and vodka. Now time and creativity have given a whole new look to the original simple concoction. Our drinks were topped with shrimp, bacon, celery, pickle, lemon, lime, olive, and that’s where the fun begins. We made strong attempts at uncovering the ingredients hidden in the liquid mix. The possibilities are endless, but we were able to remember a few even after our third Bloody Mary. The liquid base had lots of kick and even I could taste perhaps celery salt, Worcestershire sauce, clam juice, Tabasco, rubber tires. (OK, that was after the third drink!)
You’ll have to check out these three establishments for yourself…Crab & Fin, Made, and Siesta Key Oyster Bar…and let us know your pick for Best Mary Bloody…I mean Bloody Mary! And the best news is that Sunday isn’t the only day they serve them.
