I wrote about Blacksmith Restaurant not that long ago, but I was asked to repost the blog. Instead, I am going into more detail. I will mention it again and again: always ask the locals where to eat. I usually ask store owners in the town or city. This time the woman I spoke to was spot on.
I was so intrigued, that I headed straight over to Blacksmith Restaurant. They had an enclosed porch, but I had to check out the dining room. The dining room was really sharp with hanging white lanterns. I sat on the padded banquette and started to look over the menu. I spotted the words Farm to Table and then noticed the most creative menu selections.
My selection had to be the Handmade Short Rib Empanada: slow-cooked beef, sharp cheddar, house-made salsa, red onion, homemade creme fraiche, and greens. The empanada was crispy on the outside, and the beef was so juicy on the inside. The complimenting ingredients were fresh and added so much flavor to every bite.
Chef Justine Zegna is an experienced restaurateur, and it shows in all aspects of Blacksmith Restaurant. The town of Berlin is lucky to have Ms. Zegna, and you will be lucky when you experience her fine culinary talents!
