Last year for my son Grayson’s birthday, we dined at Landini’s in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. (Just typing the restaurant’s name makes my mouth water!) It was recommended by my friend Megan, who lives in Alexandria…and it was a huge hit with my son and me.
I made a return visit this year accompanied by my friends, Kerry and Molly, knowing they’d enjoy the food as much as I had. Landini Brothers is located at the bottom of King Street and when you step inside, you’ll feel like you’re in Tuscany with the stone walls, low lighting, and artwork for many discerning tastes. Then the food takes center stage.
The cuisine at Landini’s is Northern Italian. Grayson ordered fresh homemade pasta stuffed with spinach and ricotta cheese, sautéed in cream and Parmesan cheese. It was smooth, creamy, and in a word…incredible. I chose one of the nightly specials…Lobster Linguini, lobster in the tail with a tomato cream sauce with a touch of brandy over linguini. (I think the picture says it all…amazing!) Our friends delighted in the Scaloppine di Vitello alla Calabrese, which was thinly sliced milk-fed veal sautéed in butter, white wine, capers, and a touch of tomato, topped with ham and mozzarella cheese.
The service was impeccable. We had four different waiters serving us and we never had to ask for a thing. They seemed to anticipate our needs.
If you ever have a chance to dine at Landini Brothers, I believe you will experience a perfect night out. You’ll thank me later! (Don’t forget to let me know what you had for dinner.)
