The state of Delaware is where my son grew up and graduated from St. Marks High School in Wilmington. The city of Wilmington is spread out, but there are still walkable neighborhoods. Trolley Square in Wilmington is the best example. Trolley Square is where I lived when I married, renting an apartment first and then purchasing a brick-row house. The neighborhood is located within the Forty Acres area and has always been very popular with young professionals. With lots of restaurants and bars, you can walk out your door and, in a short distance, meet friends for a drink.

I was so happy living in the Forty Acres neighborhood because the streets are lined with old row houses with seasonally decorated porches. And, in just a few minutes, you could walk to the Highland neighborhood with Rockford Park. The park’s extensive expanse and pet-friendly areas are perfect for you or your dog to make friends. Each year the Wilmington Flower Market is held on the grounds of Rockford Park. It is a three-day festival that benefits the children of Wilmington, and this is its 100th year.

Walking back from the park, I always found a new way to explore the streets. The pictures you will see are a glimpse of what I saw on my walks. When visiting friends in Wilmington, I walk the same streets and always visit the park. I make sure to visit one of the restaurants in Trolley Square for lunch or dinner. Before I leave, I pass my old apartment and the townhouse up the street. Then I find a bakery.

If you are visiting Wilmington, Delaware, Trolley Square in Forty Acres is a must to experience an old neighborhood with a young vibe.
