I will always wonder who was the first person who caught a crab and found the white meat of the crustacean delightful. I know my mother, Bernice was very thankful for the discovery, as was Old Bay.
Crab cakes were served in our house as a family favorite. Bernice did not like too much “filler”. I have found a crab cake with no filler detected at the Drummer’s Cafe.
I was returning to Virginia from Connecticut and made a stop in Berlin, Md. at the Atlantic Hotel. The hotel restaurant is called Drummer’s Cafe. It is a charming victorian bistro with indoor and outdoor seating. I chose to sit on their glass-enclosed porch with a view of the adorable town.
The waiter was delightful and he could see I was ready to order. “I’ll have the crab cake sandwich with the chips, now, I meant…please.” I didn’t have to wait long and there in front of me was the most perfect crab cake. Just look at the picture, perfectly prepared and cooked.
I picked up the crab cake sandwich and vast chunks of crab fell onto my plate, bonus crab. I have no idea if there are any additional ingredients in this crab cake. I could only see and taste the crab. The way life should be…crab with no filter, I mean filler!
What are you waiting for? Go, order the crab cake and let me know your impression. Do you agree it is the best crab cake ever?
