What travel tips have you heard you wish you ignored?
Mine was…when you go to Italy, don’t wear sneakers because everyone will know you as a tourist. Not true, every human, Italian or not, was wearing sneakers in Italy. Platform sneakers were everywhere and worn with dresses; they looked so sharp and comfortable. Your feet need comfort when traveling to ensure walkability.
“Oh you should see as much as possible; this may be the only time you get to another country.” When was the last time you collapsed in a hotel bed from pure exhaustion? No, I’m not talking about college. Planning traveling is brain draining. Then the whole process of getting to the airport, checking in, dragging your suitcase, flying for hours…ok you grasp the idea. You need to carefully plan your trip so you have plenty of time to recoup before the next day’s excursions.
“Don’t talk to strangers.” This advice is impossible for me to follow. I love people and have found only good advice from the residents of towns, cities, states, and Italy. When I arrive at the suggested restaurant, I read the menu and looked around the interior. If I don’t like it, I move on. Most suggestions have been fine. Besides, if I never talked to strangers, I would not have met my ex-husband.
