Off we went to Alexandra, Va. again for Grayson’s 25th Birthday. What is it that draws us back to this historic town? Grayson’s love of history, easy access to Washington, DC, and the FOOD. We will cover all of the above in a few of this week’s blog posts.
We took the Amtrak train from Williamsburg to Alexandria, Virginia. The cost was very cost effective…$72.00 round trip for both of us. I know that sounds impossible. Check with Amtrak, they have regular specials with excellent rates. There is the probability that the cost of train travel will increase, so get out there now.
Departure time was 5:42am from Williamsburg to Alexandria. I had bed head, my eyes were puffy and the sheet marks were still on my face. Thank goodness I didn’t see anyone on the train I wanted to date. This kind of travel is an adventure. Dragging your bag down the narrow isles and tripping on size 13 1/2 sneakers is totally worth the savings.
And, the best part, no car, no parking concerns…I mean you don’t have to worry about parking in a city with very limited parking. Old Town Alexandra has one main street, King Street, with lots of shops and restaurants. You will find additional shopping on side streets with more beautiful upscale stores.
Let’s review, call Amtrak, make reservation. Pack and don’t forget sunscreen because there is only one CVS and it may not be within walking distance from your hotel. Stay at the Hampton Inn, great rates and free breakfast, super convenient from the train station.
Now, ask me any additions questions and you will see how much I pay attention while traveling.
